In Rotating Rep, July 14-31

Generation’s 2011 season features the U.S. regional premiere of the Tony-Award-winning musical Spring Awakening, in rotating rep with Yasmina Reza’s bold comedy Art.  Both plays are regarded as groundbreaking works that take audiences to new places in new and exciting ways.

Spring Awakening is a spirit-lifting, heartbreaking story about the journey from adolescence to adulthood. Featuring a gorgeous rock-music score, it is the ultimate coming-of-age drama. The joy, passion, and rebellion of youth combine to tell a story that touches all. Rock and roll was never so surprising as it is in Spring Awakening!

Art caused quite a sensation when it won the Tony for Best Play in 1998. Playwright Yasmina Reza (God of Carnage) asks not only “What is art?” but also “What is friendship?” and “What is marriage?” The answers will make you laugh and maybe even make you gasp.

Spring Awakening is directed by Generations Artistic Director George Brock, winner of multiple Tommy Tune Awards in his role as Theatre Teacher and Director at Episcopal High School in Houston. Phillip Lehl, co-founder of Stark Naked Theatre Company and one of Houston’s most versatile actors, directs Art.
